Subject Leader: Mr R Gough
Hello, my name is Mr Gough. My role as Music Subject Leader is to ensure that our children have access to a range of opportunities and experiences that instil a love of music. This involves ensuring our children develop an appreciation of the wonderful and diverse global music culture that we can immerse ourselves into, and learning about the people behind this, including the role and impact music plays in the lives of people across the world.
It is a clear priority for me that our children experience learning to play an instrument alongside developing an appreciation of music, and in turn being able to read and write their own pieces.I look forward to you hearing and even experiencing our wonderful music opportunities here at St Nicholas.
Introduction
The value of music as an academic subject lies in its contribution to enjoyment and enrichment, for its social benefits, for those who engage in music seriously as well as for fun. High quality music education enables lifelong participation in, and enjoyment of, music, as well as underpinning excellence and professionalism for those who choose not to pursue a career in music.
Children use music to help maintain emotional and social well-being and celebrate culture and community in ways which involve entertaining or understanding themselves and making sense of the world around them. Children should develop their understanding, make musical judgements, apply their new learning, develop their aural memory, express themselves physically, emotionally and through discussion and create their own musical ideas.
