The distinct aims and Christian values of St Nicholas CE First School underpin every aspect of school life. It is our mission to teach our children to “walk in the footsteps of Jesus”. We embrace the Church of England’s vision for education, one that is, ‘deeply Christian, serving the common good and encompassing all of humanity.
Educating for wisdom, knowledge and skills: enabling discipline, confidence and delight in seeking wisdom and knowledge, and developing talents in all areas of life.
Educating for hope and aspiration: enabling healing, repair and renewal, coping wisely when things go wrong, opening horizons and guiding people into ways of fulfilling them.
Educating for community and living well together: a core focus on relationships, participation in communities and the qualities of character that enable people to flourish together.
Educating for dignity and respect: the basic principle of respect for the value and preciousness of each person, treating each person as a unique individual of inherent worth.
What do we mean by Courageous Advocacy?
By way of a working definition, when using the term ‘courageous advocacy’ we are referring to the act of speaking out against an issue of injustice, often on behalf of those whose voice is not heard. Speaking out, at whatever level this takes place, requires an element (and sometimes a great deal) of courage!
Becoming a courageous advocate for change, means being informed about an issue and doing something about it to effect positive changes.
At St Nicholas we equip our children with the skills of action-taking, challenging injustice and becoming leaders of change:

In doing so we challenge our pupils to transform themselves, develop and foster relationships within different communities.
