We were very impressed in school last week when Isabelle from Year 3 brought in her bunny called Lily, where she had identified a clear problem to solve: Lily didn’t have a bag to keep things safe! Therefore, Isabelle took it upon herself to apply her knowledge of ‘overstitching’ to create Lily a beautiful, new bag.
Isabelle has applied her knowledge from a Year 3 unit of learning in Design and Technology (How can I keep a special item safe?), where she and the rest of the children in Year 3 generated design plans; selected fabrics and fastenings, and investigated a range of 3D textile products. You will also hear Isabelle mention her learning from Design and Technology in Year 2, where she identified different ways textiles are used; different fabric fasteners and how they work, and explored joining and fastening techniques for textiles!
This is an amazing example of how our children at St Nicholas are taking their knowledge from our curriculum and applying it solve real-life problems beyond school. Well done Isabelle! You can see Isabelle’s video here: Click here
